Breast Feeding Model Walks Sports Illustrated Runway

Breast Feeding Model Walks Sports Illustrated Runway

It can be rough navigating the modern world with so many conflicting beliefs circulating societies but we’re making a splash forward. Celebrities such as Chrissy Teigen, Tess Holliday, and Alyssa Milano have been public about not policing women’s bodies and not creating this environment of shaming breastfeeding mothers in public.

At 2018 Miami Swim Week, one of the models, Mara Martin walked the Sports Illustrated swimwear show while breastfeeding her five-month-old baby. Martin was one of the finalists of the Sports Illustrated swim wear which makes it even more awesome that she was breastfeeding her child during the show. Sports Illustrated usually targets their publications towards a male dominated audience, so this is big for changing the way we view female breasts and breast feeding.

Martin strutted down the catwalk wearing a metallic gold, one-shouldered bikini and her baby had on some cute blue noise-cancelling headphones, and a glittery green bikini bottom over her diaper.

Martin was met with a ton of support on Instagram when SI Swimsuit Edition posted the video of her walk on the ‘Gram. Users were commenting about normalizing breast feeding and showing support for the brand.

On Monday, Martin posted on Instagram about the response she’s received in the aftermath of the show. It was a screenshot of a Daily Mail article about her, and she captioned it: “Words can’t even describe how amazing I feel after being picked to walk the runway for @si_swimsuit. Anyone who knows me, knows it has been a life long dream of mine. I can’t believe I am waking up to headlines with me and my daughter in them for doing something I do every day. It is truly so humbling and unreal to say the least. I’m so grateful to be able to share this message and hopefully normalize breastfeeding and also show others that women CAN DO IT ALL!”

“But to be honest, the real reason I can’t believe it is a headline is because it shouldn’t be a headline!!!,” the caption continued. “My story of being a mother and feeding her while walking is just that.”
